Dr. Elizabeth Ellis Hoyt (1893-1980) was Professor of Economics at Iowa State University, featured in the first issue of Who’s Who in American Women and invented the Consumer Price Index as used in the United States. She is an oft overlooked innovator in the field of economics. Her achievement are many, but her main contribution to economic thought was examining and explaining the driving forces behind consumption. This book is her seminal work on consumption, with chapters on changing price levels, monopoly prices, business cycles, and tracking changes in the American standard of living. At the time of cataloguing, no other copies listed for sale and no auction records of this scarce first edition.
