Adams and Co. were the definitive gold rush bankers. They had the largest and most respected express agency in San Francisco and the West. The bank closed after the banking crises of 1855 — thus, is this a rubber check from 1856? The amount of $1,500 is quite large. Inflation adjusted, it comes in at over $50,000 today.
