Mexican Stamp Act

Ley que Arregla la Renta del Papel Sellado. Los Usos de Este, Decretada en 14 de Febrero de 1856. (Secretario de Estado y del Despacho de Hacienda y Crédito Publico. Sección Tercera).

Mexico: Imprenta de Vicente G. Torres, 1856. 210 by 160mm (8¼ by 6¼ inches). Contemporary 14 calf with pebbled black boards; 24, [2] pp. In Spanish.

Very good with spine somewhat rubbed, light bumping to edges, and light foxing throughout.

Until 1920 tariff and stamp taxes comprised up to 77% of Mexican tax revenue. The tax system was comprehensively modified for greater equality in the 1920’s, so that, for example, an income tax was first introduced in 1924. The item on offer here sets forth the Mexican stamp tax law (taxes on all official paper) of February 14, 1856.
