[Collection of 8 posters of the “Projekt Lehrlingsrolle der Elefanten Press Galerie”].
Berlin: Elefanten Press Galerie, 1972. 830 by 590mm (32¾ by 23¼ inches). The collection contains the numbers 1-3, 5-8 and 10 of the series “Project: Role of the Apprentice in the Elephant Press Gallery” (translated).
The poster series was created by students at the Technical University Berlin in 1972. With works by Tom Fecht (founder of the Elephant Press), Rainer Hachfeld, Guido Zingerl, Friedrich Karl Waechter, Chlodwig Poth, Amelie Glienke, and others. Later the Elephant Press would take over publication of the satirical magazine Titanic. The poster series represents satirical commentary on immigration, labor laws and education reform.
Our favorite poster is the one by Hachfeld. A woman and man stand with their fists raised while a newspaper publisher rants and raves about the downside of immigration. The poster announces: “STICK TOGETHER! Don’t let yourself get worked up. Infighting only benefits the corporate interest. GUEST WORKERS ARE COLLEAGUES!” (translated).
Price: $950
