Adorno developed a strongly critical perspective on Wagner’s music, which he associated with the commodification of culture and the emergence of fascism. Together with six additional books by Adorno. All inscribed by Adorno to Kaschnitz with inscriptions ranging from one to three lines and dated from 1958–1964.

We believe this note was sent to the exile philosopher Adolf Grünbaum. Very Good but for small, stained spot where the note was taped to the front brochure cover; the note has the tape remnant affixed to a corner.

Draft of an article Brandt published in the Journal of Farm Economics, Feb. 1937, Vol. 19, No. 1. There are differences between this copy and the published version—the footnotes differ and there are slight differences throughout the text (for example, an “outstanding scholar” becomes the “only scholar” in the published version. Good plus, the first and last pages quite brittle at the fold marks (the speech was folded in half). Staples rusting.

The third and “best” edition of this French natural history school book, with the addition of the numerous plates. The 1st edition of 1794 was 444 pages, the 2nd of 1797, 563 pages and our 3rd further expanded to 680 pages.

With the leaf of ads at the back of Volume II (a tape repair to a blank portion of the leaf), and the half-title in Volume II (no half-title required in Volume I). Cont. calf boards, quite rubbed & worn, calf chipped along the edges and some corners. Both volumes nicely rebacked with red morocco spine labels. A number of old rubber stamps of the Mercantile Library New York, who sold off their books in the 1970s. Each volume with an old inscription of a preliminary blank from one Joseph Wolff to his friend J. King. Very scarce. The greatly revised “New Edition” with extensive revisions by the great orientalist Charles Wilkins (Richardson died in 1795). The work was originally printed in 2 folio volumes in 1777-1780 in Oxford. Richardson also wrote A SPECIMEN OF PERSIAN POETRY (1774), and both an Arabic Grammar (1776) and a Persian Grammar (1771). The first volume is Arabic and Persian words translated to English, and the second volume English words translated to Arabic and Persian.

Edges dyed red. Published after its first performance in Vienna, March 17-20, 1810. A five act play written in blank verse. Kleist committed suicide the following year in 1811.

Fuller.” First edition of the first important American textbook of ophthalmology. Frick (1793-1870) a Baltimore physician was also the first American M.D. to restrict his practice to Ophthalmology. The original leaf in this set is from THE ROMANCE OF THE MILKY WAY, 1905, the chapter titled “Ultimate Questions,” found on pp. 122-123 of the book. There are 17 lines of manuscript on the inserted leaf, pertaining to Hearn’s comments about Percival Lowell’s 1895 book MARS and his speculation about inhabitant of an older and a wiser world, and possible contact with them. He states: “Might it not even result in the extinction of the human species.” An excellent leaf of manuscript. The original leaves of manuscript found with set vary considerably, some with just 5 or 6 lines of text.

Later 16th century edition of Horace, edited by the great scholar Dionysius Lambinus. Dibdin, in his GREEK AND LATIN CLASSIC (4th ed.). Vol II, p.45, makes reference to two editions printed by Wechel, a 1577 folio and our 1596 4to.
