Single page typed letter from Wright (1888–1940) to R.H. Barlow (1918–1951) discussing reprint rights of two works by Catherine L. Moore (1911–1987). On back, handwritten pencil notes of complaint that are very likely Barlow’s (based on a comparison to 1935 notes of his at Brown University).
Good with a 105 by 35 mm (4 by 1 1/2 inch) cutout from the letter—likely by Barlow as the writing on the back is not affected by the cutout.

N. inv. [handwritten] 46787.” Early inscription in Italian on leaf [4], refers to a doctor’s orders. Very good minus with light soiling throughout; spine and fore edge of front cover repaired with later vellum.

Bebelium, Anno mdxxxii [1532]. 321 x 216 mm (12.5 x 8 ¼ in). Folio. [4], 175, [1] ll. In Latin. Final leaf misnumbered ‘157.’ With Cratander’s device as a title vignette and final unnumbered leaf with Bebelium’s device on verso. Woodcut initials. Bound in early vellum over boards, with heraldic stamp on both covers (that we were not able to identify). Leather spine title label with gilt lettering, with publication place and year beneath in ink. Red speckled edges. Ink inscription in an old hand on verso of front free endpaper states (in French): [“M. Brunet, in his Manuel du Libraire, quotes a rare minor work by Leoniceno; he did not indicate this collection, which informs everyone, and which, itself, is not common.»] Autograph on title page: “Ex Libris: Dr. Paul Decoux, Paris, 1869.” Blind embossed stamp on edge of title page: “Decoux, Docteur en medicine a Treignac (Correze).” The same stamp appears in numerous places throughout the book. Ink stamp with a facsimile of an autograph on verso of title page. Decoux also signed the title page verso and beneath the colophon on the verso of leaf 157. Very good or better overall. Minor damage to spine; boards scuffed and some soiling, with a small gouge to the front cover revealing the board beneath. A few gatherings mildly age-toned; but a crisp, solid, wide-margined copy, exhibiting little wear.

The first work is an often reprinted text on shoes (sandals) of the ancient Hebrews by Bynaeus. The second work is his text on dreams. Both are later reprints.

This scarce work is also a primary eye-witness source for the early history of Sarawak and British North Borneo.

A scarce and curious book on life’s temptations (“tentations” is an archaic form of the word temptations) including lust, lying, sodomy, perjury, usury, suicide, etc., etc. The “Fourth Part” which is new to the 1655 edition was also published separately (Wing C476). First published in March 1832, under the title, “The Authentic Records of the Court of England for the Last Seventy Years,” which is a 1 volume work of 395pp. Our edition in 2 volumes with approx. 700 pages is the very scarce suppressed edition and should be considered an entirely new work. It was probably written by Olivia Wilmot Serres, who had gained Lady Anne’s confidence, used her name without her consent, and wrote very personal details of her life.
