Description

[Nürnberg]: G. B.-N. [Gebrüder Bing Nürnberg], [ca. 1908]. 140 by 220mm (5½ by 8¾ inches). Oblong illustrated stapled pamphlet; 12 pp. + a large fold-out advertisement measuring 8 ¼ × 32 inches depicting four model ships. In German. Richly illustrated throughout. Good. Pages pulled lightly askew from staples and previously folded in half.

Richly illustrated lovely example of an early war-game toy. Modern war games were invented in Germany in the early 19th century and excelled in popularity in the 1870–1870 Franco-Prussian War up until World War I. There are numerous academic articles which link Prussian militarism to the wide adoption of war games among the youth.
