Early mottled calf, some rubbing & very minor worming, head of spine nicely repaired, spine label rubbed. Text with some marginal notations in 2 early hands. Ownership signature on title page dated 1690. Another signature in bottom blank margin has been inked out. Symmachus was a 4th century Roman Proconsul in Africa. This work, first published in 1577, was edited by Francois Juret, a French lawyer and diplomat to the Court of Queen Elizabeth I. Adams S2198.
