A theological dissertation, in which Stein (a pastor and teacher in Karlsruhe) closely analyzes Genesis 49:10. The verse refers to a scepter and to Shiloh, which are here interpreted as symbols: the former of Jewish legal authority and the latter of the Messiah. Stein discusses the transfer of Jewish legal and legislative power throughout the Babylon Captivity and era of the Sanhedrin, and argues that Jesus was the prophesied Messiah.
