Description

Zürich: Der Sperber, 1. April 1939. 270 by 205 mm (10¾ by 8 inches). Magazine on newsprint; 24 pp. + 4 pp. form to sign up for future colonization. In German. Single issue: 3. Jahrgang, No. 1. Inscribed by Sonderegger to Felix Guggenheim, which is interesting because Sonderegger was an antisemite and Guggenheim was Jewish. With numerous notes throughout in Sonderegger’s hand and underlining in red. It appears that Sonderegger was emphasizing arguments for Guggenheim. Good.

René Sonderegger (1899–1965) argued for Switzerland’s integration into Nazi Germany and was an antisemite. In this scarce periodical he attempts to solve the crisis of war refugees in Switzerland by promoting the Swiss colonization of South America.

Scarce in the trade and in the United States only at NYPL.

Provenance: Collection of Felix Guggenheim (1904–1976). Guggenheim was a German American publisher and literary agent in Los Angeles.
