Thomas, Jerry. The Bon Vivant's Companion, or How to Mix Drinks.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1929. 220 by 150mm (8¾ by 6 inches). Original yellow illustrated cloth boards; li, [3], 169, [1] pp. Index. 24 engraved illustrations.

Very good with covers lightly soiled and top of spine rubbed, paper discoloration to part of title page. Text and images crisp and clean.

The first edition of Thomas’ book, published in 1862, was the first cocktail manual. This Knopf edition from 1929 features an introduction by Herbert Asbury with a biography of the author, the principal bartender at the Metropolitan Hotel. This is the classic; the cult cocktail book with 306 recipes at a straight up price.
