Never bound printer’s signatures likely sent by the publisher to the author; [8], 312, [2] pp. Inscribed in German: “To my old friend for his birthday. This first(?) copy. E.B. New York. 28. September 1939.” (trans.) Likely inscribed to literary agent Felix Guggenheim (1904–1976) from whose collection this item comes. Very good with light browning.

E.B. Ashton (1909–1983) was a German author and translator of Adorno into English. In this book he tells the story of post-World War I Germany and one man’s experience with the rise of Nazism and becoming a stranger in his own land.
